Mimesis, a Visual and Musical Instrument
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this demonstration we present Mimesis, a virtual environment with interactive stereoscopic real time graphics and interactive sound that works as a visual and musical instrument. We have developed two display systems, a spatialized sound system and a passive horizontal stereoscopic visual system, that help users create visuals and music. Both systems work together increasing the sense of immersion of the user in the virtual environment and facilitating her navigation and interaction with the elements of the environment.

Automatic Musical Instrument Recognition in Audiovisual Recordings by Combining Image and Audio Classification Strategies
The goal of this work is to incorporate the visual modality into a musical instrument recognition system. For that, we first evaluate state-of-the-art image recognition techniques in the context of music instrument recognition, using a database of about 20000 images and 12 instrument classes. We then reproduce the results of state-of-the-art methods for audio-based musical instrument recognitio...

In 2008, a humanoid robot developed by Honda conducted a symphonic orchestra in front of a live audience. It perfectly imitated the pre-recorded actions of the orchestra’s human conductor. Despite its realistic movements, it was suggested that the robot could not listen to nor interact with the orchestra as a true conductor would. For a robot to truly direct an orchestra, it would need to hear,...

Kalimbo is an extended kalimba, built from repurposed materials and fitted with sensors that enable it to function as a reductionist control interface through physical gestures and capacitive sensing. The work demonstrates an attempt to apply theories and techniques from visual collage art to the concept of musical performance ecologies. The body of the instrument emerged from material-led maki...
متن کاملThe Planetarium as a Musical Instrument
With the advent of high resolution digital video projection and high quality spatial sound systems in modern planetariums, the planetarium can become the basis for a unique set of virtual musical instrument capabilities that go well beyond packaged multimedia shows. The dome, circular speaker and circular seating arrangements provide means for skilled composers and performers to create a virtua...
